Nottingham-born artist Mat Collishaw will engage in a live-streamed conversation with his fellow artist and friend, Mustafa Hulusi. In Behind Closed Doors a series of short films recorded in the Djanogly Gallery last year, Mat gave in-depth introductions to each of his five major works in his solo exhibition. In this interview with Mustafa the two artists discuss some of the wider ideas and issues at play in Mat’s work and the creative process that lies behind some of his extraordinary art works. The vimeo will be recorded and made available on the Lakeside website.

About the artists (click to expand)

Mat Collishaw is a key figure in the YBA group that rose to fame in the 1990s. He exhibited in the renowned exhibitions: ‘Freeze’, curated by Damien Hirst (1988), and Sensation (1997) at the Royal Academy. Both put British Art at the forefront of the global art scene.

Since then Collishaw has established an international reputation with an extraordinary body of work that tackles contemporary issues, often using imagery and technology of the past. He also employs modern technology such as virtual reality, robotics and animatronics.

Mustafa Hulusi is an artist based in London working in painting, video, installation and photography. He received his BA in Fine Art and Critical Studies from Goldsmiths College and his MA in Photography from the Royal College of Art. He also holds an MA in Critical Theory from Central St. Martin’s School of Art. He has exhibited widely in Europe, the US and Asia. Hulusi represented the Republic of Cyprus at the 52nd International Art Exhibition of Venice Biennale in 2007.
