Accessibility Statement

Everyone is welcome at Lakeside Arts and our website is no different. We are committed to making sure that our website and the material provided on it is accessible to as many people as possible.

We have attempted to follow relevant standard and good practice for accessibility and usability while developing this website, including the W3C Web Content Accessibility Guidelines. For example, that means you should be able to:

  • Change colours, contrast levels and fonts
  • Zoom in up to 300% without the text spilling off the screen
  • Navigate most of the website using just a keyboard
  • Navigate most of the website using speech recognition software
  • Listen to most of the website using a screen reader 

In addition, most of the text on this website is written to be straightforward and as easy to understand as possible.

HOW ACCESSIBLE THIS WEBSITE IS

We know some parts of this website are not fully accessible: 

  • Most documents, of which there are few, are in PDF format and not accessible 
  • Some videos do not have captions or audio descriptions 
  • Event images do not have good alternative text 
  • A small number of form functions are not correctly labelled

Lakeside Arts, University of Nottingham is committed to making its website accessible, in accordance with the Public Sector Bodies (Websites and Mobile Applications) (No. 2) Accessibility Regulations 2018. 

This website is partially compliant with the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines version 2.1 AA standard, due to the non-compliances listed below. 

NON-ACCESSIBLE CONTENT 

The content that is not accessible on our website and ticket purchase website, which is provided by third party, is outlined below with details of: 

  • Where it fails the success criteria 
  • Planned dates for when issues will be fixed 

WEBSITE 

The website search function is correctly titled but is not labelled. This fails WCAG 2.1A success criteria 2.4.6 (Headings and Labels) and 3.3.2 (Labels or Instructions). We plan to fix this by September 2020. 

The What’s On page date search function is correctly titled but is not labelled. This fails WCAG 2.1A success criteria 2.4.6 (Headings and Labels) and 3.3.2 (Labels or Instructions). We plan to fix this by September 2020. 

The Cookies Policy page contains form controls that do not have a corresponding labels. This fails WCAG 2.1A success criteria 2.4.6 (Headings and Labels) and 3.3.2 (Labels or Instructions). We plan to fix this by September 2020. 

The Home Page slider function uses scrolling panels of text and images and does not have mechanism for the user to pause, stop, or hide it. This fails WCAG 2.2.2A success criterion (Pause, Stop, Hide). We plan to fix this by September 2020. 

Images on Event pages do not have suitable alternative text. This fails WCAG 1.1.1A success criterion (Non-text Content). We plan to fix this by September 2020. 

Some video and audio content embedded within the website to not have captions and audio descriptions. This fails WCAG 2.1A success criteria 1.2.2 (Captions (Prerecorded)) and 1.2.3 Audio Description or Media Alternative (Prerecorded). We are not the content authors for all of this content, however we will fix all media within our control by September 2020 and endeavour to work with partners to ensure most third party media from September 2020 meets the success criteria. 

TICKET PURCHASE WEBSITE

The Ticket Purchase Website template styling contains a link text colour with very low contrast to the background colour. This fails WCAG 2.1A 1.4.3 success criterion (Contrast (Minimum)). We plan to fix this by April 2020. 

The Event Listings page promotional code and date range filter functions do not have corresponding labels. This fails WCAG 2.1A 2.4.6 / 3.3.2 success criterion (Headings and Labels / Labels or Instructions). This is a limitation of the third party component which we will aim to fix by September 2020. 

DISPROPORTIONATE BURDEN 

Not applicable. 

CONTENT THAT'S NOT WITHIN THE SCOPE OF THE ACCESSIBILITY REGULATIONS 

Guidance will be created to help content authors understand the requirements for captions and audio description for all new videos. This is related to WCAG 2.1A success criteria 1.2.2 (Captions (Prerecorded)) and 1.2.3 Audio Description or Media Alternative (Prerecorded). 

PDFS AND OTHER DOCUMENTS 

Many documents are not accessible in a number of ways including missing text alternatives and missing document structure. 

We plan for all existing documents to be accessible by September 2020. Any new PDFs or Word documents we publish will meet accessibility standards. 

HOW WE TESTED THIS WEBSITE 

This website was and is currently being tested for compliance with the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines V2.1 level A and level AA, and these tests have been carried out internally. 

We have and continue to test all pages on our website and all page templates on our ticket purchase website. The WAVE by WebAIM tool was and is being used to highlight errors, warnings and areas of compliance. 

WHAT WE'RE DOING TO IMPROVE ACCESSIBILITY 

We plan to identify and fix issues according to the timescales shown for each area above.
