Nottingham’s famous man-made caves are a defining feature of the city’s heritage, used for a wide range of functions from tanning workshops and malting kilns, to pub cellars, elite drinking dens and World War II air-raid shelters. Dr Chris King presents a wide range of fascinating archaeological finds from Nottingham’s caves that help us to tell their story and learn more about the everyday life of Nottingham people through the centuries.

Dr Chris King is an Associate Professor in the Department of Classics and Archaeology and lead investigator for the University’s City of Caves project (caves@nottingham.ac.uk)
