PROGRAMME NOTES

The Djanogly Recital Hall re-opens with a debut appearance by the multi-award winning Notos Quartet from Germany. Mahler’s single movement for piano quartet written as a student shows the influence of Brahms.

The graceful, optimistic character of Mozart’s E flat major quartet is followed by the second of Brahms’s Piano Quartets first performed at the home of the revered pianist Julius Epstein in Vienna in 1862. The work cemented Brahms’s reputation in the city and was performed regularly although nowadays it is the less well-known of the three Piano Quartets.

These charismatic players combined youthful energy with mature interpretation and formidable technique." Chichester Chamber Concerts
