The architectural historian Sir Nikolaus Pevsner (1902-83) came to England from Germany in 1933. After the war he created the seminal Buildings of England series of county guides to England's architecture. The Nottinghamshire guide has now been completely revised and updated by historian Clare Hartwell.
Nottingham-based architectural photographer, Martine Hamilton Knight, was commissioned by Yale University Press to work with Hartwell on the new book published in 2020.
This exhibition presents a selection of her photographs and reveals the considerable challenges of documenting both historical and contemporary buildings for the guide.
