Robert Hollingworth, Director with Rachel Podger and Brecon Baroque

£25
1 hour 10 minutes (no interval)

J.S. Bach Nun komm, der Heiden Heiland (BWV 61)
Monteverdi Beatus Vir
Monteverdi Rimanti in pace
Handel Pifa, from Messiah
Cristoforo Caresana La Tarantella
Juan Francés de Iribarre Xacara de Navidad

Unfortunately, Rachel Podger will not be able to perform with I Fagiolini for this performance. We look forward to welcoming Rachel Byrt as director of Brecon Baroque to Lakeside in her place.

I Fagiolini brings an animated cast of Christmas characters to life in foot-tapping music from Italy, Germany and Spain. A hypnotic Neapolitan ‘tarantula’ dance wards off Lucifer, while from Salamanca, a villancico for voices, strings and percussion brings the ‘the Devil down in flames!’ At the other end of the scale Bach’s ‘pizzicato’ paints Advent knocking on the door of Christ’s arrival, while Monteverdi’s much-loved Beatus Vir gives a taste of Christmas Vespers.

If you're attending this event you can find the full programme notes here.
