Clara Schumann Piano Trio in G minor, Op.17
Alexander Goehr Piano Trio No.2, Op.100 ‘Nighttown’
Schubert Piano Trio No.2 in E flat, Op.100, D.929

We mark the 90th birthday of Alexander Goehr, an Honorary Doctorate of the University, with a performance of his second piano trio. Inspired by texts from the Entrance into the Nighttown episode from Joyce’s Ulysses, Goehr conjures fantastical visions in short musical episodes. Clara Schumann’s fine Piano Trio, written in 1846 is one of her most well-known and substantial works. The concert concludes with Schubert’s masterpiece, the E flat Trio.
