CREATIVE ACADEMY ANNOUNCEMENT

On 16th March, Lakeside will be opening its doors to University of Nottingham students who are passionate about developing a career within the cultural industries. This event follows our previous Creative Academy sessions and marks the final event of the 2019-20 academic year.

Like preceding events, the night will feature a keynote address. This time we're featuring the artist Hetain Patel, deliverer of many TED talks and founder of his own youtube channel, who after graduating from Nottingham Trent University, became the first artist-in-residence based in the D H Lawrence Pavilion at Lakeside where he absorbed a range of opportunities in both the performing and visual arts. Currently a New Wave Associate Artist at Sadlers Wells, Hetain has established a name for himself in photography, videography, sculpture and live performance, proving that there is no one size fits all career path that everyone must follow. Expect humour, intelligence and gusto and learn about the art, and value, of networking, as well as how to develop a portfolio career.

In a mix up of the format to our previous Creative Academy events, our next session will feature a new ‘Speed Dating Event’. Here, students will be split up into smaller groups for which they can engage with our guest speakers (both freelancers and individuals) who will be representing a range of creative industry organisations such as Nottingham Castle, Skeleton Productions, Pixelsquad and Capital Radio. It is hoped that the students will be able to learn what it’s like to work in sectors including:

  • Digital Technologies and Gaming
  • Heritage and Museums
  • Marketing and Design
  • Arts organisations and Events
  • Broadcasting, Communications and Media

The Creative Academy is open to all University of Nottingham undergraduates, especially those who have come through a widening participation route to University. The event aims to allow students to gain insight into a vast range of careers available in the creative sector, ensuring that they are provided with the toolkit required to move forwards in their career.
