Lakeside’s Spooktacular Pumpkin Carving Contest Rules & Entry

This October, enter your family’s most artistic pumpkin in Lakeside’s first-ever Spooktacular Pumpkin Carving Contest!  Your family’s masterpiece may win one of several prizes awarded during our Halloween Cookie Decorating Workshop on Wednesday, October 17th!

To Enter:

  • Pick your own pumpkin at any store or pumpkin patch.
  • Carve your design.
  • Fill out the entry form online and drop off your pumpkin along with your $5 entry fee.
  • All entries must be dropped off on Tuesday, October 16h by 4:00 pm.
  • To: Lakeside Arts Park at the Dole, 401 Country Club Road in Crystal Lake, IL 60014

Rules:

  • Commercial stencils may be used however, handmade stencils or freehand carvings will earn more creativity points in the judging.
  • Creativity is encouraged!
  • Accessories to enhance your pumpkins such as fake hair or jewelry are permitted.
  • All pumpkins must include a flameless candle.
  • Only one pumpkin per family, please.

Judging:

Judging will be held on October 17th before the Halloween Cookie Decorating Workshop.

Categories/Prizes:

  • Prizes include movie passes, seasonal treat basket, family hayride, and more!!

  • Best Scariest Pumpkin Winner
  • Fan Favorite: Vote for your personal favorite pumpkin cast your vote on the Lakeside Arts Park at the Dole Facebook page.

Pick Up:

  • Pumpkins may be taken home on Wednesday, October 17th following the Halloween Cookie Decorating Workshop, or picked up on Friday, October 19th.
    Pumpkins are not picked up by 5:00 p.m. on Friday, October 19th will be discarded.

Pre-K Art Classes

Art & History Series

Children Ages 3-5 with Parent/Caregiver (18+)

Join us on Tuesdays in October for a new art series for kids ages 3-5 and their parent/caregiver(18+). Come to the Dole Mansion and create a different art project each week as our instructor will help you and your child create one of a kind artwork. Each class includes storytelling time, art project, and a exploration of the Dole Mansion. All supplies will be provided. Pre-registration is required.

Dates & Time:

  • Tuesday, Oct. 9th at 10:00 am -11:30 am
    • Creating artwork and learn about Mr. Dole jobs
  • Tuesday, Oct. 16th at 10:00 am – 11:30 am
    • Creating artwork and learn about Life in the 1860s
  • Tuesday, Oct. 23rd at 10:00 am – 11:30 am
    • Creating artwork and learn about the Dole Architecture

Cost:

Online Class registration will end at noon on the day before each class. Pre-registration is required

Halloween Cookie Decorating Workshop

Wednesday, October 17th from 5:00-6:30pm

Join us for this frightfully delicious workshop where kids will learn simple techniques for decorating Halloween cookies. Each participant will decorate six sugar cookies to take home. We provide the cookies, icing, tools and expertise. You supply the creativity! This class is easy for any skill level (ages 8 and up).

Cost:

P is for Pie

November 13th from1:30pm – 3:00pm

Join us for this introductory culinary class designed for children ages pre-k to kindergarten with the help of a parent/caregiver (18+). Your young chef will re-invent the pie slice by making this dirt pie in a jar! These pies are simple to assemble and tasty enough to be a hit with little chefs and big chefs alike! Kids will learn the difference between dry and wet ingredients, simple measuring, and proper hand washing technique.

Cost:

  • Online Class registration will end at noon on November 6th.
  • Pre-registration is required
  • $15.00 per class (1 child with 1 Adult)
  • $8.00 each additional child

Gingerbread House Family Workshop

December 15th from 10:00am – 12:00pm

Join Lakeside Arts Park at the Dole and decorate your very own gingerbread house! Gumdrops, chocolate squares, and jelly bears…Oh My! The sky is the limit to your creativity. All materials will be provided.
