RE-FRAMING DANCE: CALL OUT FOR PRODUCERS 2021

Dance4 and Nottingham’s museums and visual arts sector are seeking three independent producers, within the first 10 years of their practice as a producer.

Re-Framing Dance is an action-research project that values the role of producer and considers in what ways independent producers can be supported to enhance the current presentation of dance in the gallery.

The selected producers will be matched with hosts in Nottingham to collaborate on a three-week research residency to which they can invite collaborators. One of the three projects will be commissioned to be presented in 2021.

The following are in partnership with Re-Framing Dance, 3 of which will become hosts:

Potential Hosts
Lakeside Arts/University of Nottingham, National Justice Museum, New Art Exchange, New Midland Group (comprising of Backlit, One Thoresby Street and Primary), and Surface Gallery.

Contributing but not hosting
Bonington GalleryNottingham Museum Service with Nottingham Castle Trust in collaborative partnership.

Shona Powell, Director at Lakeside Arts says: 'Lakeside Arts is proud to be a partner in Re-Framing Dance alongside other galleries in Nottingham. We are excited to participate in Dance4’s innovative action research project to identify producers who are interested in seeking new ways to present dance in galleries.'

In recent months, Re-Framing Dance has moved forward with the following producers selected to be supported through the project:

  • Nora-Swantje Almes
  • Claricia Parinussa
  • Rosa Postlethwaite

Primary, Lakeside Arts and the National Justice Museum will take the lead in hosting three weeks of research for each producer, leading to a sharing event during Talking, Thinking, Dancing in March 2021. More information about their specific projects will be announced in the new year.

Applications for 2021 have now closed.
