We are a group of people interested in Nottingham’s long and turbulent history of dissent, unrest and rebellion. From Diggers, Food Rioters, Castle Torchers, Luddites and Chartists through to WWI deserters & mutineers, the General Strike, the Spanish Civil War and the anti-Poll Tax struggle, there is a lot to be unearthed.
ABOUT PEOPLE'S HISTREH
We are a group of people interested in Nottingham’s long and turbulent history of dissent, unrest and rebellion. From Diggers, Food Rioters, Castle Torchers, Luddites and Chartists through to WWI deserters & mutineers, the General Strike, the Spanish Civil War and the anti-Poll Tax struggle, there is a lot to be unearthed. Indeed, the most amazing, inspiring, shocking and outrageous stories leap-out wherever someone scratches the surface.
We organise events like talks and guided walks and publish books and pamphlets in an effort to tell the stories of people who stirred things up over the course of Nottingham’s and Nottinghamshire’s history.
HIGHLIGHTS OF CURRENT PROJECT
We are very proud about our latest publication: Face Blind in Berlin, Suffolk and Gedling – The Memoirs of Chris Cook Cann Loaf On A Stick Press (in cooperation with the prestigious Saithwaite Press)*.
It’s a memoir, a record of its time, a love affair with books, a continuing protest, and a dire warning about what can happen if you forget about pubic hair.
*Paperback, 237 pages with plates and many illustrations, £9, available from ExLibris (the Masked Booksellers) and Five Leaves Bookshop.
