ABOUT FRIENDS OF THE CENTRE FOR ENGLISH LOCAL HISTORY
Friends of the Centre for English Local History is a registered charity (number 1073528) which supports the Centre for English Local History at the University of Leicester and its students, for example through the provision of library donations, student bursaries and practical help.
We have a programme of events which includes study days and weekends, outings, lectures and conferences, a small publication programme, and an annual second-hand book sale. Membership of the Friends of the Centre for English Local History is open to anyone with an interest in local history whether the history of Leicestershire or of any other part of England and Wales. We are an active and enthusiastic group of local historians with a wide range of interests.
HIGHLIGHTS OF CURRENT PROJECT
The Friends aim to encourage you to study for an MA History (Local History) at the University of Leicester which will allow you to explore a variety of topics including regional identities, society and landscape, historical ecology, family and community history, and cultural regions. You will combine the study of these themes with training in historical research methods to prepare you for pursuing a dissertation on an area of interest to you. This course is run by our internationally acclaimed Centre for English Local History. Our research centre is unique, specialising in pioneering the study of local history across England and Wales. You will study in-depth the interaction between society, families and landscape and use comparative methods to test hypotheses and interpretations which might include comparisons with places outside of the British Isles.
The MA course is either one year full-time or two years part-time.
