WHAT'S ON THIS FEBRUARY HALF-TERM

With February half term just around the corner, the thought of needing to entertain the little ones needn’t fill you with dread. Lakeside Arts has you covered with a jam-packed week full of children’s shows, workshops and activities. So, wipe that bead of sweat off of your forehead and let us do the entertaining.

BRAIN FOOD

School may be out for the week, but that doesn’t mean that the learning has to stop! As part of the Nottingham Festival of Science and Curiosity, we’ve a series of science related workshops to bring the subject out of the classroom. From nurturing all budding engineers on Tuesday 18 February with Build a Cardboard City to exploring the world of electronics on Wednesday 19 February with Learn to Sew With Conductive Thread and Circuits, this half-term we’re taking the school out of science and are giving it a less textbook heavy facelift.

FOR THE TINY ONES

For your smallest ones, why not bring them along to Igloo? On Sunday 23 February, they can partake in a playful experience filled with warmth, sensation and gentle exploration. In both a guided and an unguided session, they can enjoy the texturised play to their own accord.

If you’ve got a Pablo Picasso on your hands, we’ve a range of activities to cater for them. On Saturday 15 February, Comic Book Conversations allows children to make their own comic books, designing their own characters and stories. However, if cartoons aren’t their thing, From Landscape to Monoprint on Thursday 20 February may be more up their street. Drawing inspiration from our surroundings of Highfields Park, children can translate their outdoor observations to their own mini artworks.

TRAVEL BACK IN TIME

Maybe you want to escape modern life altogether and travel back to a time where things were much simpler in nature. On Friday 21 February, Everyday Life in Roman Margidunum invites children to experience what it was like in the Roman period. Dress up, play some of their board games and even make your own archaeological drawings.
