Women hold multiple roles in society with each role impacting upon and often competing with others. This interplay creates unique individual experiences. How do these experiences shape the way women write about themselves and others?
Spend an evening with renowned British-Chinese best-selling author and journalist Xīnrán while she shares her experience of exploring and writing about the evolving roles of women. She describes how this has shaped her own writing and reflects on a writer's role and responsibilities in shaping Chinese women's identities for readers.

Sue Cheung, winner of the Diverse Book Award 2020: Young Adult Category, is a multi-award-winning British-Chinese author/illustrator. Born in the Midlands, to parents who ran a restaurant, she spent her early years devouring copies of Beano and Dandy and dreaming of creating her own comics one day. At the age of 16 she seized her chance to become an artist by winning a scholarship to the London College of Fashion through a competition in ‘Mizz’, a magazine for teenage girls. Later she ventured into advertising and worked her way up to Art Director. Sue now freelances as a designer from her home in Bournemouth, where she also writes and illustrates books, which are mostly funny, so in a roundabout way her dream came true!
